Yola – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has emerged victorious in all 20 Local Government Areas of Adamawa State where results have been announced so far in the state council elections.
The election is still pending in Numan LGA, which is scheduled to hold today after being postponed from Saturday, June 13.
The outcome is seen as surprising by many, given that the state is currently governed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) following Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s defection from the PDP to the APC on February 27. While most of the governor’s loyalists followed him to the APC, the council chairmen who had already been endorsed for re-election remained with the PDP.
Other political parties that participated in the election could not mount a serious challenge against the PDP.
The PDP governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections, Chief Maurice Vunobolki, who actively led the party’s campaign ahead of the polls, congratulated the newly elected council chairmen. He described the sweeping victory as clear proof of the PDP’s continued popularity among the people of Adamawa State.
The elections were conducted by the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC), which has now shifted focus to the remaining poll in Numan LGA.
Among those who emerged victorious is Jibril Ibrahim Jimeta, elected as Chairman of Yola North LGA.
The results further affirm the PDP’s strong grassroots support in the state despite the change in political alignment at the gubernatorial level.
