Abakaliki – The Ebonyi State Police Command has refuted claims of bandits or suspected Fulani herdsmen invasion in Nguzu Edda Community in Edda Local Government Area of the state.

The Command gave the assurance following a comprehensive verification operation in the area, confirming that no bandits or herders are operating in the community.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, the police described the viral social media video and reports alleging an invasion as false and misleading.

The statement noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Hope Urunwa Okafor, promptly ordered tactical units from the Police Headquarters to Nguzu Edda upon receiving the reports. The teams conducted thorough search-and-combing operations across the community and surrounding bushes.

“Following a detailed operation, the Command wishes to categorically state that there are no bandits or Fulani herdsmen in Nguzu Edda Community,” the statement read.

The police attributed the circulating video to mischief makers attempting to cause panic and disrupt peace in the area.

SP Joshua Ukandu urged residents and the general public to disregard the false alarm and go about their lawful activities without fear.

The Command reassured the people of sustained security presence across Ebonyi State and reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and order.

It also called on citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to the nearest police station or through official emergency lines.

Nguzu Edda Community was reported to be calm as of the time of filing this report, following the successful completion of the police verification exercise.
